Princess Royal Training Award

Tailored guest services provider Portico has been chosen for a Princess Royal Training Award.

Now in their sixth year, The Princess Royal Training Awards recognise organisations in the United Kingdom which have demonstrated exceptional commitment to training and development.

Portico is one of only 46 businesses to receive the accolade in 2021.

Portico scooped the award for learning and development being a 'promise' not an 'initiative' that commits it to holistically developing new and existing employees professionally and personally - as defined by wellness and personal skills.

The company's 'Five Portico Pathways' learning and development programme requires employee to complete mandatory onboarding training specific to their role as a precondition of being admitted to their particular career pathway.

One of the pathways available to employees is called 'Future Leaders' , and is open to all managers regardless of whether they have declared an ambition to lead a site or department.

Previous recipients of a Princess Royal Training Award have reported clear positive impacts on their business, with 82 per cent stating it has improved recruitment and retention and 62% reporting increased investments into training programmes.

This will be paramount when it comes to helping businesses recover post-covid, closing sector skills gaps and promoting a culture of skills development.

The news follows Portico winning three UK Employee Experience Awards including the Employee Training and Development – Continuous Learning category at the UK Employee Experience Awards earlier this year.

Kirstie Donnelly MBE, chief executive of the City & Guilds Group, comments: "The last 18 months have caused disruption to the way most organisations operate which has led to major changes for all of us in how we live and work.

Despite these challenges, it’s fantastic to see so many organisations’ continued commitment to training and development as well as the positive and life changing impact learning can have on people."

Victoria Craig, Portico learning and development manager, adds: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been presented with this award.

It reflects the strong learning and development programme we have developed as well as the exceptional level of talent and dedication among our people."
